Today's prompt is "Something Close-Up"

This is a close-up shot of my mailbox in our teacher's lounge. When I checked it at lunch, I found a note taped to the outside that read, "Long Weekend Survival Kit." Then I opened it up and found a few of my favorite snacks inside. I'd planned on going away with a few friends this weekend, but earlier this week made the annoying responsible decision to stay home since I had quite a bit of school work (as a teacher and as a student) to do. When I told my friends I needed to stay home, I told them I was pretty sad about it since I would've really loved a weekend away. But it was more important for me to stay home and do work. So one of my sweet friends filled my box with goodies to help me "survive" my long weekend of work. Seriously - this made my day! It's always nice to know someone cares about you :)

October Photo Challenge Day 10

Today's prompt is "Emotion..."

My kids were so excited to hear a story read by my T.A. Right before I took this picture you could hear all the kids laughing loudly. Throughout the book they'd be sitting there silent with looks of pure awe or they'd be smiling and laughing. This class loves reading. But even more than reading themselves, they love to be read to - especially by a cool "big kid," otherwise known as a high school student :)

October Photo Challenge Day 9

Today's prompt is "Red"

Meet Mr. S. Isn't he a cutie?

Today for our Read Aloud time, I read "Dear Zoo" by Rod Campbell. The students then had to write their own letter to the zoo, asking for their own animal. They had to use good descriptive words and sentence structure. Since both of those are still a somewhat foreign concept for some of my sweet kiddos, we had our first Writer's Conferences today. I was able to work with half of my kids today and will finish the others tomorrow. This is where I "meet" with a student and go over his paper with him, helping him to edit it and present a nice. finished product. And since they LOVE using their markers, I allowed them to write in pencil first, and then trace it with marker. And since Mr. S's favorite color is red, I thought this picture would be perfect for today's Photo Challenge post :)

P.S. Did anyone notice how cute he is with his missing two front teeth? :)

October Photo a Day Challenge Day 8

Today's prompt is "Angle"

Hi Blogger World. Here's a picture of my battle scar from where I fell not once, but twice, and hit in the exact same spot on this leg. From this angle, it actually looks pretty good. It took FOREVER for the swelling and bruising to go away. And considering this is my "bad" knee (the one I've dislocated twice), I truly claim Jesus's healing power for this injury not being worse than it was!

October Photo Challenge Day 7

Today's prompt is "Light"

I've lived in my new apartment for 2 months and just realized last week that this fan had a light on it. I like it for multiple reasons... 1) It's small and lightweight (great for power cuts when you need a light and cool air). 2) It's a bright light, so I don't have to have it sitting directly next to me. 3) It's plugged into my inverter, so when the power cuts, I can still have a light and some cool air. And 4) It's also battery operated so if fully charged, it will still work for a while after a long power cut that drained the inverter too (...hopefully not jinxing myself here).

October Photo Challenge Day 6 ...better late than never :)

I saw a few Facebook friends were doing the October Photo Challenge and thought I'd try it too. But since I didn't see it 'til day 6 (today), that's where I'm starting :)

Day 6...

Today's prompt was, "I'm Thankful For..." I'm thankful for the rights I'm granted as an American. I'm thankful for the privilege I have to vote for the leaders of my city, county, state, and country. I'm thankful for the freedom I have as an American. And honestly, I'm thankful for the pride I have in my country. Sure, she has some issues. But who/what doesn't? :) I love my country and am thankful that she's mine. :)

The 33rd Dear _____ Post

Dear 75, You're the number of days left 'til I get to meet my niece! Excited doesn't even begin to cover how I feel about that! :)

Dear Kids Club, You started this past Wednesday. It's been my dream to see this happen since I arrived at DA in 2009. Everything seemed to go smoothly. The kids were happy. The High School volunteers were happy. The adults were happy. There were 68 kids there Wednesday and the only crier was a sweet little homeschool guy who has never been in a large group of kids like that and didn't want his mommy to leave. ...totally understandable. :) But other than that, it really was awesome! I couldn't have asked for a better first day!

Dear Bacon Cheeseburger, I had you last night at a school function. ...so delicious! :)

Dear Halloween, I'm just not a big fan of you. I just think there's too much bad associated with you. And no, I won't judge someone that does celebrate you. It's just my own personal "thing" that I don't agree with celebrating you Halloween.

Dear Frozen Cookie Dough Balls (minus the eggs, so they're safe to eat), You are my new favorite dessert. Oh my goodness...so absolutely, positively, totally, incredibly delicious! I love 'em! :)

Dear Christmas Music, I really do LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing you. That's why I started playing you this week. No, I'm not skipping Thanksgiving. Yes, I will be decorating for Fall/Thanksgiving this weekend. No, I will not start decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving. But, yes, I will listen to Christmas music as much as I can. Why? ...because I can :)

Dear Hottest Month of the Year, You've arrived. Between the intense heat of the sun and the extremely high humidity occurring every day, I say... Boo to you Hottest Month of the Year! Boo to you!

Dear Packages from Home, I got 2 of you this week. There were all sorts of goodies... Fall decorations, Christmas decorations, Christmas books for my class, magazines, pink lemonade, ranch, decaf tea...all sorts of awesomeness :)

Dear Loose and Wiggly Teeth, You're showing up a lot in my 1st grade class. I'm soooo not a big fan. And for whatever reason kids LOVE showing you off. So each time I have to choke back my gagging, put my brave face on, smile, and tell them how awesome it is that their tooth is wiggling like that. Ugh! It makes me queasy now just thinking about it...

Dear Graduation, I got an e-mail giving me all sorts of important info about you. I realize there are far more important things in this world to worry about, but it still makes me sad that I'm going to miss you. I've worked my tail off for 3 years to get my Master's degree and yes, I am a little sad that I can't walk across that stage to get my diploma. :( ...that is, unless someone has an extra $1000 lying around they'd like to send my way :) Kidding...
