It’s the 4th of July.
Independence Day
For the majority of my adult life, I lived out of this country I call mine. I’d come back to the US for visits here or there. But that was it.

So I have a different perspective than some.
I’ve always been proud to be an American.
My dad was in the Navy. My grandfather and numerous uncles were in the Army/National Guard. Friends and former classmates have served in the various branches of Armed Services.
I love the USA.
But
I’m frustrated.
I don’t agree with everything the current administration is doing.
Oh, and as an FYI… I also did not agree with everything the last two (besides him) did either. It’s not just about the one currently in office.
I also don’t agree with people who call themselves Christian spewing such hateful rhetoric on social media about anyone who disagrees with them or who comes from a different country.
Side notes - If this is you, just a reminder that Jesus was definitely not American. Jesus was not white. Also, Jesus was an immigrant. Just saying.
Anywho - I digress.
I’m frustrated with how things are in the US right now. I’m frustrated with how non-Americans are labeled and treated. I’m frustrated about so many things.
It’s exhausting and heartbreaking.
But I do know that this country I call home is not all bad.
I still believe in it. I still believe in its people. I still believe in the goodness and kindness and compassion the majority of people show.
I still believe in the beauty and diversity of the United States of America - a country started by individuals wanting to gain freedom from the rule of another country.
And yes, I still am proud to be an American.
