Currently

 Happy Wednesday, Y'all

2020 seems like it's been going on FOREVER. Anyone else feel that way? ;)

Today I'm joining Anne from In Residence for her monthly link-up, where we share what's currently going on in our lives. And each
month, Anne gives us a list of prompts to use to guide our posts.

May's prompts are...

* making *  missing * learning * loving * reading *

So what am I currently up to?

I'm currently making lots of popcorn. It's become my snack of choice a lot lately. It's such a quick and easy option (especially since I still have a few packs of the microwaveable version left).

No photo description available.

I'm currently missing my people. And yes, I totally changed the background of my computer to our goofy picture from earlier in the school year. I love this picture because it shows their sweet and silly personalities :)

I'm currently learning far more about video editing than I ever cared to learn before. I record myself reading to students or teaching lessons for most of my classes each day. And since I'm not perfect (shocking, I know), I'm often having to edit out my little mistakes in the videos. ha! So yeah, I'm having to learn this a LOT :)

I'm currently loving that there's finally a restaurant in Dakar which will deliver tacos (and other yumminess) to my neighborhood. This is a game changer, for sure ;)

I'm currently reading and working on activities through "The Rainbow Fish" with one of my elementary students. Fun Fact... The first reading lesson I ever taught, while in college, was on this book. Plus, it's my favorite children's book.

And since it's my blog and I can, I thought I'd share a few more...

I'm currently wearing a mask any time I'm off campus, as required by the Senegalese government. But hey, one perk of living here while in the midst of a worldwide pandemic is that we have access to lots of pretty fabric.

I'm currently embracing this new norm in teaching. Teaching online is hard. Most definitely, the hardest I've worked in my 11 years of teaching. But

I'm currently feeling sad that I won't get to see my nieces (and the rest of my family) this summer. This will be the first summer I've ever NOT gone home. And I'm not going to lie. It's hard. I want to be able to go. But alas...

I'm currently enjoying the YouVersion Bible app on my phone. I love working through various plans, having the Bible at my fingertips all day, and easily starting my day with it right there with me. I still use my actual (paper version) Bible while I'm studying/journaling each day. But I still really like having this option.

  So what about you?

What are your currently up to?

  1. Now THAT'S a bright side--all those gorgeous fabrics! My oldest friend spent about 10 years in Senegal. She went back this February for a 10-day visit....JUST in time. So glad she got in under the wire. I'm sorry you can't come home this summer.:(

  2. I am also teaching online (middle school reading), but I am not recording lessons. I just assign their online reading program work, encourage them to do it, and then discuss it with them during office hours. It is challenging for sure! The fabric masks are beautiful. I hope you'll be able to visit your family for the Christmas holidays.

  3. It's tough not seeing family! I'm sorry you can't see your family this summer. Aw, I love The Rainbow Fish. It was a favorite of mine growing up.

  4. Ah, I bet a lot of teachers have had a crash course in video editing recently! But as a parent of a 1st grader, I can say the kids and parents both really appreciate it :) And hooray for restaurant delivery. We finally did that last week for the first time during all of this and it was such a treat. Hang in there!

  5. I love the Bible App. It's so convenient to follow a reading plan on there.

Teaching online sounds incredibly difficult, like a whole new learning curve :/ Especially if you know you can't go home this summer and get a true vacation at the end of it.
