Each week, I'm highlighting new items I've added to my list of one thousand gifts. These aren't always big things. In fact, sometimes it's the littlest things that stick out the most.
This week, I've added 7 new things...
#196 - lessons learned while packing
This was the topic I wrote about earlier this week on my blog. I truly do not enjoy packing. I never have. But through packing up basically everything I own, God's been teaching me a few lessons. So I'm thankful for the teachable moments I have been able to give God a lot here lately. Did you miss the post I'm talking about? You can see it here.
#197 - a successful trip to HLM
HLM is a big fabric market here in Dakar. There is stall after stall after stall after stall (you get the idea) of fabrics of so many different colors, textures, materials, prints, etc. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, as there's just soooooo much to choose from. But one of my plans on my personal day that I took this past Friday was to head to HLM with a friend and pick up some fabric to have a couple things made to take to the States with me. Well, based on how fast we found what we wanted and how happy we were with our purchases... When we left, we both agreed that this was the most successful trip to HLM that both she and I have ever been on! And that is a HUGE "gift" added to this list :)

#198 - Brazilian food and obama ice cream 2 nights in a row
The Brazilian restaurant in Dakar is absolutely AMAZING! Seriously, go check it out if you're here and haven't been yet! It also happens to be one of my favorite restaurants in Dakar and made my list of places to go before leaving next week. When I made the plan to go with friends this weekend, I didn't realize that another set of friends would invite me the following night. ...which is major awesomeness by the way! And to top it off... After we left the restaurant both nights, they wanted to go to N'ice Cream (the best ice cream place in town), which means I was able to get obama ice cream (the best ice cream) 2 nights in a row too. And as everyone knows, Elisabeth LOVES obama ice cream! :)
#199 - finding the perfect gift for helpful family members
My aunt and uncle are helping me in a huge way by checking out the car I was blessed with, making any repairs needed now so all I'll have to do when I get home is reimburse them and not have to deal with finding a mechanic and making the repairs myself. Seriously y'all... This is a HUGE, HUGE help and blessing, knowing that this will be already taken care of when I get home and all I'll have to do is write them a check :) So when I was at a shop in the market the other day buying a few souvenir type items, I looked down and saw what feels like the perfect gift for them as a thank you for all they're doing for me. YAY for the gifts God places in my path!
#200 - shorter, thinner hair
I got my hair cut and thinned earlier this week. I had been thinking I would just wait 'til I got back to the States to have it done, but wow is it hot and humid right now. And I know that it's going to be even worse when I get to Alabama. So, I decided to jump at the chance to have someone cut it here. Thankfully, there is a sweet lady who's daughters go to my school who happened to have an opening on Monday. PRAISE JESUS for this woman and the chance to get my hair cut because I love it! It's lighter, cooler, and requires far less work...which equals more sleep :)
#201 - a friend letting me borrow shoes
Last week I realized that I didn't have dressy shoes to match my dress for this weekend's Junior Senior Banquet. Oops! And since I didn't want to have to buy some just for one night, I thought I'd ask a friend. And what do you know? She has the exact color I was looking for AND they're cute AND they're comfy. So triple YAY :)
#202 - 10% off at the grocery store
Our local grocery store was having a sale this week, where everything in the store was 10% off. So yay for getting those last few things I needed for a super cheap price!
